DIRECTORIES: These church directories will help to locate a particular church found in the area covered by the publication. Will often give date of foundation, location, types of records held, etc. 

INVENTORIES: These volumes were compiled by the Works Progress Administration as a method to keep authors and artists employed during the Great Depression. These particular inventories list what was being held in the respective repository and the location of that repository, at the time of the book's compilation. The inventories themselves are very specific. The give dates of records held, the items enumerated or inventoried and most importantly the Name under which they are listed. These volumes are very useful for the genealogist and historian and are a quick source of what is available, what it was called and where it might be found.
