Donegal: A Guide to Tracing Your Donegal Ancestors
Donegal families are an interesting mixture of native Irish families and the "Scots-Irish" who came to Donegal from the 17th century onward. Donegal experienced high emigration to North America and also to Scotland and elsewhere in the UK. The county remained administratively remote from the rest of Ireland throughout much of its history and the variety and scale of records available to the family historian is relatively low. It is therefore important for the researcher to be fully aware of the records that are available. This book sets out the records available for researching Donegal families, which include church records, civil and land records, censuses, newspapers, commercial directories, school records and others. It details where these records can be accessed and how they can be used to best effect in tracing Donegal families
