An alphabetical listing and complete extraction of more than 6,700 applications for scrip for $160 or 160 acres given to all residents living in Manitoba on 15 July 1870.
The Manitoba Scrip was issued to all Métis or Half-breeds and all original white settlers and their children. Application for the land scrip began June 1875 and continued until the early 1880's. Information on the application included: date and place of birth, name, husband's name and race or national origin of parents. The application was witnessed by two members of the community who knew the person. Occasionally a certificate of baptism, marriage and death was submitted for proof of those events
