Second Report of the Bureau of Archives for the Province in Ontario. Edited by Alexander Fraser. 2 Volumes, 1,436 pages, indexed. Originally printed in 1905. ISBN 1-58211-051-4. Description below. ( see requirements ) | $29.95 | |
| This vast work contains the record of claims for losses for more than 1,200 persons who fled to Canada during and immediately after the American Revolutionary War. This work does not contain documents supporting claims for compensation but rather contains the extensive notes of the Commissioners who heard the claims between the years 1783 and 1790. These notes contain a veritable gold mine of genealogical information and quite adequately sum up the position of the claimants. Each document usually gives the claimant’s name, country of origin, reason for emigration, date of migration, place of residence in the American Colonies, occupation, names of family members and friends, location and value of confiscated property, war service rendered, losses sustained, evidence of character, statements of witnesses, notes of deed and wills and highlights of the claimant’s experiences during the war. | |||
